Mondays in October and November: Free Kathak Classes!
Celebrate 20 years of Aroha Fine Arts by stepping into the vibrant world of Kathak—India’s classical dance of storytelling, rhythm, and grace. Open to all ages, these classes are a perfect way for anyone to discover the joy of movement and rhythm. Classes run at the Cardel Recreation Complex, 1500 Shea Road, on October 20 and 27, and November 3, 10, 17 and 25 from 6:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Click here to register.
Every Saturday: Stittsville Parkrun
The “Ottawa-Carleton Trailway” parkrun starts on the Trans Canada Trail by the dog park pathway entrance near Shea and Granite Ridge, and will run along Robert Grant to Bobolink and back. There are no road crossings on the route. This is a 5km run suitable for all ability levels. The event runs every Saturday at 9:00 a.m.. For further information, please visit parkrun Canada.
Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: St. Thomas Clothing Drop-Off
St. Thomas Anglican Church, located at 1619 Stittsville Main, accepts gently used clothing every Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. Please do not leave clothing after these hours. They accept clothing with no holes, rips, or pet hair. They will take all sizes, shoes, boots and outerwear. If you would like to volunteer with set-up, sorting or takedown, please call 613-836-5741. Their Next to New Clothing store is only open to recipients of the Stittsville Food Bank.
Every Monday: Cribbage
The Stittsville Friendship Club will be hosting their afternoon cribbage games from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Stittsville Legion (Lower Hall) located at 1481 Stittsville Main Street. November 11: Remembrance Day Service
Remembrance Day Service is hosted by the Stittsville Legion at the cenotaph in Alexander Grove Park/ Johnny LeRoux Arena, 10 Warner Colpitts Lane. The service begins at 2:00 p.m..
November 15: Holy Spirit Women’s League Annual Bazaar
The Holy Spirit Women’s League will host its Annual Bazaar from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, 1489 Shea Road. Items will include crafts, homemade baked goods, religious articles, a white elephant table, and more! Stop by the tea room and enjoy a luncheon plate with homemade desserts and coffee. Tickets will be available in the church atrium on November 1,2, and November 8 and 9. For further information, please contact Louise.
November 15: Trinity Presbyterian Holly Berry Event
The Trinity Presbyterian Church will host its Holly Berry Event from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at its location, 1817 Richardson Side Road. November 20: Trans Day of Remembrance
You are invited to the annual Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) at Centre 33, 33 Leacock Drive, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. This important day serves to honour and remember the transgender individuals who have lost their lives to violence, hatred, and discrimination. TDOR is not only a moment of reflection but also a call to action. It highlights the ongoing struggles faced by the trans community, particularly trans women of colour, who disproportionately experience violence and harm simply for being who they are. Together, we can stand in solidarity and advocate for a world where everyone can live safely and authentically. This event will include Meaningful Art, Mental Health Support and “Mingle Essentials” including hot chocolate and baked treats! For further information, please contact here
November 22: Goulbourn Historical Society Presentation
Mark Heckman will be presenting “Goulbourn and the Local Homefront in World War II,” featuring five stories, including a plane crash near a local school and a Hollywood movie being filmed at a local base! Join Mark and others at the Stittsville Branch of the Ottawa Public Library, 1637 Stittsville Main Street, in the Grace Thompson Room to learn about Goulbourn’s past during the War. November 24 and December 15: International Film Series
In collaboration with the Film Circuit of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the Rotary Club of Ottawa-Stittsville will be showing four films at Landmark Cinemas, Kanata, this fall. These films will be screened at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.. The price of a pass for the four films is $60.00. Please note that these films deal with mature subjects and are not suitable for children. Profits from the International Film Series support a variety of Rotary club projects and donations within our community and around the world. Films are as follows: September 29: Being Cyrano (Dans la peau de Cyrano), October 27: Bob Trevino Likes It, November 24: Secret Mall Apartment, and December 15: The Penguin Lessons. November 25-December 10: Zonta 16 Days of Activism
Every year during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, Zonta International promotes the “Zonta Says NO to Violence against Women” campaign. The 16 Days of Activism calls for the elimination of all forms of violence against women by raising community awareness of this long-standing issue. This year, the Zonta Club of Kanata Stittsville will contribute to the campaign by placing 16 “Orange Ladies” in strategic locations around Stittsville and Kanata each of the 16 days. An Orange Lady is a four-foot-tall, orange-painted plywood cutout with information about violence against women posted on it. Look for it in and around our community during these days. December 6: Stittsville Parade of Lights
Love volunteering your time and skills and having a lot of fun at the same time? The Stittsville Village Association is looking for volunteers to help out with this year’s Parade of Lights. The parade will be held on December 6, at 6:00 p.m.. There is a real need for volunteers for barricades, park setup and cleanup, and crowd control.
