La version française suit

From the youngest helpers to entire groups, Stittsville residents are showing what it means to care for our community. Do like Levi Dias (4yo) and Arthur Monteiro (3yo), who joined family and friends at the Cleanup Day in W.J. Bell Rotary Peace Park. Or follow the example of Sebastiao Sala, who brought his family together for a cleanup along Harmattan Avenue and Maple Grove Road, focusing on sidewalks and sideroads — a meaningful way to give back to the neighbourhood they are proud to call home. Or take inspiration from the Stittsville Maple Colony Beavers, who rolled up their sleeves to clean Wyldwood Park, and by the Amberwood Village Recreation Association, whose members came together to refresh Paul Lindsay Park — a true reflection of community spirit in action.

Now it’s your turn! Registration for Fall Cleaning the Capital 2025 is open until tomorrow, September 30, and cleanup projects can be completed until October 15.

How to Participate: Choose your spot — parks, green spaces, roadsides, shorelines, or bus stops — and use the interactive map to avoid duplicate registrations. Pick up your kit with gloves and garbage bags, available until October 12 at participating City facilities (bring your registration code). Show your impact by sending photos to Glen.Gower@ottawa.ca and submitting your cleanup report by October 31.

High school students: Cleaning the Capital is also a flexible and rewarding way to earn volunteer hours while making a difference in your community.

Let’s keep Stittsville clean and green — register your project today at ottawa.ca/clean.

On Saturday, September 20, Stittsville joined a global movement. As millions of people in over 180 countries marked World Cleanup Day 2025, our community welcomed the United Nations to W.J. Bell Rotary Peace Park.

Guests included Anacláudia Rosbach, UN-Habitat Under‑Secretary‑General and Executive Director, Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Councillor Tim Tierney, Chair of the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee, Member of Parliament for Carleton Bruce Fanjoy, members of Councillor Glen Gower’s team, Margus Rava, Ambassador of Estonia to Canada, and representatives of the Rotary Club of Ottawa–Stittsville, co‑organizers of the event. Alongside them were dozens of local volunteers from our community ready to clean up with gloves and garbage bags in hand.

Mayor Sutcliffe reminded us why this tradition matters, noting that more than 1.5 million volunteers have participated in Cleaning the Capital since 1994. “We’re so lucky to live in a community where people care about our city and are ready to contribute their time.”

Every year, 92 million tons of textiles are discarded — enough to fill a garbage truck every second. Less than 15% is recycled; the rest is burned or buried.

In 2025, more than 21 million people answered that call. Here in Stittsville, every bag filled, and every volunteer’s effort brought us closer to that vision, proving once again why our community has led Ottawa’s Cleaning the Capital campaign for three consecutive years.

Ottawa Public Health has prepared the information below. La version française suit

Can I / a group of people (e.g., my family) clean a park, roadway, our property?

Due to the current COVID-19 situation no clean ups should be undertaken off your property. Residents have been advised to stay home and limit all non-essential activities outside of your home and property. Please understand this is a difficult decision as in all other situations the City of Ottawa greatly appreciates the support from the community in these clean ups. Please remember that all parks are closed, and only walkthroughs are permitted while respecting physical distancing.

If you or your household wish to initiate a clean-up activity in your own property, please take into consideration the following related guidelines and legislative and enforcement measures;

Residents have been advised to stay a home and limit their physical interaction to only members of their household.

No more than five (5) people can gather in one place.

Follow self-isolation requirements, if you have traveled recently or are ill you are to remain inside your home and should not be participating in outside activities where there is a chance you may come in contact with someone (i.e. neighbours).

Physical distancing – it is recommended to maintain distance of 2 meters (6 feet) from those around you at all times. This includes other individuals who may walk by your house and your neighbours how may be on their property.

If you live in a multi-unit dwelling it is recommend you do NOT participate in any outdoor cleaning unless you can ensure a distance of 2 meters (6 feet) can be maintained at ALL times.

Individuals over the age of 70 are recommended to self-isolate and should not participate in any outdoor cleaning activities
