La version française suit

The City of Ottawa has started a study along West Ridge Drive in response to traffic and pedestrian safety concerns raised by residents and outlined in the Transportation Master Plan. The purpose of this study is to recommend permanent roadway modifications between intended to improve safety, primarily by reducing vehicular speeds, adding bike lanes, and enhancing pedestrian connectivity through the addition of a new sidewalk.

Public engagement session

Join us for an in-person public engagement session to review the conceptual plan and provide your feedback:

Date: Saturday, October 25, 2025

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Location: Trans Canada Trail trailhead at West Ridge Drive and Abbott Street

We strongly encourage residents to attend, learn about the proposed traffic calming and sidewalk plan, and share their input with the study team.

Website: engage.ottawa.ca/west-ridge-drive-traffic-calming-bike-lanes-and-sidewalk

Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. If you require special accommodation, or for any inquiries, please contact: Sophie Gauvreau, Project Manager, Neighbourhood Traffic Calming Sophie.Gauvreau@ottawa.ca

Proposed new safety and accessibility measures

1.7m wide painted bike lanes with 0.3m painted buffer on both sides of West Ridge Drive from Beverly Street to Stittsville Main Street.

Vertical traffic calming measures (ex. Speed humps) along West Ridge Drive between Hazeldean Road and Abbott Street West.

A raised pedestrian crossing (PXO) with bulb-outs at West Ridge Drive and Alfred McCoy Park.

A sidewalk on the west side of West Ridge Drive between Alfred McCoy Park and Sable Run Drive.

Upgrade of the existing PXO near Delamere Drive to a raised PXO and if feasible, narrowing of the road with a bulb-out to reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians. These are practices taken to lower the risk of collisions and improve visibility.

The playground replacement work at Fringewood Park and West Ridge Park A started on July 3 and will be completed later this month, weather permitting. You can find more information about the park renewal project and contact information for the park planner responsible for the files by following these links:

Fringewood Park

West Ridge Park “A”

We’ve received several comments from residents that replacing the play structures while kids are on holiday was ill-advised. This is made necessary by the timing of the construction season, which is weather-dependant. The wet and cold spring has caused delays in construction work and the City’s contractors are running behind on many park projects.

Parc Fringewood

Parc West Ridge « A »

(Press release via City of Ottawa / Le français suit)

The City of Ottawa’s Commemorative Naming Committee is conducting public consultation on the following naming proposal:

To name the park located at 73 West Ridge Drive, Alfred McCoy Park

Alfred McCoy (Ward 6 – Stittsville)

In recognition of his extensive community service and contributions to advancing recreation programs in Stittsville, the City of Ottawa has received a proposal to name the West Ridge Park B, Alfred McCoy Park.

Born in Goulbourn on what is now Mansfield Road, Mr. McCoy entered the trucking business at an early age. He transitioned to the road construction business, joining fellow Stittsville resident William J. Bell to form the McCoy-Bell Construction Company in the 1940s. The company eventually split, leading to the founding of the A.H. McCoyConstruction Company Limited, which became one of the largest road building firms in Eastern Ontario.

In 1963 the Village of Stittsville passed a resolution to create The A.H. McCoy Park, but development pressures in the 1980s led to construction of the Carleton Apartments for seniors where the park was located. This commemorative naming proposal seeks to honour Alfred McCoy’s historical services and donations to the community of Stittsville.

Nommer le parc West Ridge « B », situé au 73, promenade West Ridge, le « parc Alfred-McCoy »;

Alfred McCoy (quartier 6 – Stittsville)
