(Some of this year’s Stittsville Main Street pilot project supporters pose with one of the flower baskets.)
Stittsville’s Main Street finally blossomed this summer with the launch of a pilot project to bring hanging flower baskets to our historic district. In partnership with the Stittsville Business Association, the effort marked an important step toward a more vibrant streetscape.
Community members and visitors alike shared their appreciation for the effort. The baskets serve as a symbol of what is possible when we work together to beautify our shared spaces.
This project would not have been possible without the support of many generous people in Stittsville. We extend a heartfelt thanks to sponsors, including businesses, organizations, and individuals whose financial contributions helped turn the project into reality.
The pilot did face some growing pains. It was one of the driest summers on record, and the new blooms battled the elements. The contractor replaced the baskets twice with fresh flowers and fresh hopes, once in August and once in September.
The most encouraging part of this pilot year is what comes next. With lessons learned, we are planning an expanded hanging basket program for next season. We are hopeful that with continued support (and some more rain!) our second season of hanging flower baskets will truly reflect our community’s love of the village.
Thank you!
