The Province of Ontario, through the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO), has completed a “Site Selection, Preliminary Design, and Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study” for a Highway Maintenance Patrol Yard (MPY).
A MPY is a facility that houses the staff, equipment, and materials used to maintain highways.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate options to improve or relocate the existing Kanata MPY, which services Highways 7, 416, and 417.
The completed study recommends a hybrid two-MPY approach which involves:
- Redeveloping the existing Kanata MPY within its existing property limits; and
- Constructing a “Limited Use Supporting MPY” at MTO-owned lands referred to as Palladium West. This site is located near the highway north of the Connections community in Stittsville. This MPY would include office space, storage, and occasional maintenance of MPY vehicles.

What’s next
The Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) is now available for public comment in the ‘Reports’ page on the project website until January 15, 2026.
The TESR documents the EA study, including the consultation completed, evaluation of alternatives, preliminary design, anticipated impacts, mitigation measures, and commitments for future work.
If there are no outstanding comments after the comment period, the project will be considered to have met the requirements of the Class EA and may proceed to the detail design phase.
