On November 25, 2025 we marked the 25th Anniversary of the opening of the Goulbourn Recreation Complex, now known as CARDELREC–Goulbourn.
Town Crier Daniel Richer Dit Laflêche opened the ceremony with a proclamation, as he did in 2000 for the official opening ceremonies. We were joined by Janet Stavinga, the final Mayor of Goulbourn Township, and the first City Councillor for Stittsville (the ward was then known as Goulbourn Ward) in the amalgamated City of Ottawa, along with her former council colleague Louise Beggs. Janet spoke about the history of the building and the hurdles they had to overcome to get the facility built.
Guests included Bob Mills, Director of Recreation for Goulbourn Township, current staff from CARDELREC-Goulbourn and the City Parks & Recreation department, former Goulbourn township staff, and many volunteers and community leaders who were part of the planning and construction of the building a quarter-century ago.
Every day, people from all over the city of all ages and backgrounds visit the facility for recreation, programming, community meetings, and social activities. Thank goodness we have CARDELREC-Goulbourn as part of Stittsville, I can’t imagine the community without it. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in its creation and ongoing operation.
A special thank you to Brittney Check and the staff from CARDELREC-Goulbourn; Catherine Musgrove from my office; and everyone who shared memories and memorabilia. A special thanks to Sandra MacDowell who dropped by our office in October with a commemorative towel from the grand opening, and alerted us to this important milestone!

Le 25 novembre 2025, nous avons célébré le 25e anniversaire de l’ouverture du Complexe récréatif de Goulbourn, maintenant connu sous le nom de CARDELREC-Goulbourn.
Le crieur public Daniel Richer dit Laflêche a ouvert la cérémonie par une proclamation, comme il l’avait fait en 2000 pour les cérémonies d’inauguration. Janet Stavinga, dernière mairesse du canton de Goulbourn et première conseillère municipale de Stittsville dans la ville fusionnée d’Ottawa, ainsi que son ancienne collègue Louise Beggs, se sont jointes à nous. Janet a parlé de l’histoire du bâtiment et des obstacles qu’ils ont dû surmonter en vue de la construction de l’installation.
Parmi les invités figuraient Bob Mills, directeur des loisirs du canton de Goulbourn, le personnel actuel de CARDELREC-Goulbourn et de Parcs et Loisirs de la Ville, d’anciens employés du canton de Goulbourn, ainsi que de nombreux bénévoles et dirigeants de la communauté qui ont participé à la planification et à la construction du bâtiment il y a un quart de siècle.
Chaque jour, des résidents des quatre coins de la ville, de tous âges et de tous horizons se rendent à l’installation pour prendre part à des activités récréatives, des programmes, des réunions communautaires et des activités sociales. Heureusement que CARDELREC-Goulbourn fait partie de Stittsville, car je ne peux pas imaginer cette communauté sans cette installation. Merci à toutes les personnes qui ont participé à sa création et à son exploitation.
Je remercie tout particulièrement Brittney Check et le personnel de CARDELREC-Goulbourn, Catherine Musgrove, membre de mon Bureau, ainsi que tous ceux qui ont partagé leurs souvenirs. Je tiens également à remercier Sandra McDowell, qui est passée à notre bureau, en octobre, avec une serviette commémorative de l’inauguration, et qui nous a informés de cette étape importante!
