Cricket is one of the fastest growing sports in Ottawa and I have been hearing from players and event organizers in Stittsville about the need for more places to play. This week, I joined the Mayor and members of our cricket community for an announcement.
The City is moving forward with new cricket pitches across the city and expanding access to recreational play. Over the next few years, the City will create five new cricket pitches in the west, south, and east of the city to serve this growing demand, including two right here in Stittsville.
- Bradley-Craig Park – approval for this project is expected very soon. A planner has been assigned so that work can begin quickly once that happens. This will include the design, tendering and construction of the project.
- Fernbank District Park – City staff are currently looking at options for the layout of the park to make sure there is space for a cricket pitch among the other sports fields that will be created.
City staff are also close to completing a detailed review of dozens of parks and opens spaces across Ottawa to identify some additional sites where recreational cricket can be played.
Cricket is growing and there is definitely a need for more spaces to play this great sport. Special thanks to the Stittsville Cricket Club for their advocacy and help in moving these projects forward.

CARNET DE NOTES : Nouveaux terrains de cricket à Stittsville
Le cricket est l’un des sports qui gagnent le plus en popularité à Ottawa. Or, des joueuses, joueurs, organisatrices et organisateurs de Stittsville m’ont parlé du manque de terrains. Cette semaine, je me suis joint au maire et à des membres de notre communauté de cricket pour une annonce.
En réponse à la demande croissante, la Ville va aménager d’autres terrains de cricket sur son territoire et en autoriser un usage récréatif. Ainsi, dans les prochaines années, il y aura cinq nouveaux terrains dans l’ouest, le sud et l’est, dont deux ici même, à Stittsville.
- Parc Bradley-Craig : Nous prévoyons obtenir très bientôt une approbation pour ce projet d’urbanisme. Une personne a déjà été désignée responsable, si bien que les travaux pourront commencer dès que possible (conception, appel d’offres, construction).
- Parc de district Fernbank : Le personnel municipal évalue actuellement les options d’aménagement du parc. Il faudra prévoir suffisamment d’espace pour la construction d’un terrain de cricket et d’autres terrains de sport.
Le personnel est également sur le point de terminer une revue complète de dizaines de parcs et d’espaces ouverts afin de repérer d’autres lieux où il serait possible de pratiquer le cricket récréatif à Ottawa.
Avec la popularité croissante du cricket, il nous faut assurément trouver de nouveaux espaces à consacrer à ce merveilleux sport. Un grand merci au club de cricket de Stittsville pour ses efforts de promotion et son soutien dans l’avancement de ces projets.
