Artwork must be submitted by Friday, May 15, and all artwork submitted will be displayed in a temporary outdoor exhibition along the Trans Canada Trail on Sunday, May 31.

This year, we are giving new life to reused coroplast A‑frame signs from the Councillor’s Office by transforming them into a public outdoor art display. These signs were previously used to promote community events in Stittsville and will now be upcycled to showcase artwork created by local kids and youth. The existing printed side of each sign will be covered and used as the artwork surface, supporting reuse and reinforcing the environmental values of Cleaning the Capital.

The showcase is open to all kids and youth in Stittsville, whether participating individually, with friends or family, or as part of a group or class. Artwork may include drawings, paintings, collages, or mixed‑media pieces and can reflect parks and green spaces, community pride and teamwork, recycling and reuse, or what a clean and caring community means to you.

This initiative offers a fun and meaningful way for kids and youth to be part of Cleaning the Capital, even if they are not joining a cleanup. Through art, participants can help inspire environmental awareness, celebrate community pride, and show how much young people care about Stittsville and its future. We would love to see participation from kids and youth across every corner of the community.

It was an honour to proclaim April 4 as Collinda Joseph Day in the City of Ottawa on behalf of Mayor Mark Sutcliffe.

Collinda recently captured a gold medal with Canada’s wheelchair curling team at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Italy, an extraordinary achievement that has made our entire community proud. On Saturday, we welcomed Collinda and her family (pictured above) to a special meet-and-greet at CARDELREC–Goulbourn, where Stittsville residents had the chance to congratulate her personally, hear about her Paralympic journey, and even see her gold medal up close.

The Canadian team went undefeated throughout the tournament, a testament to their skill, teamwork, and determination. Even with this incredible milestone behind her, Collinda is already looking ahead with ambition and focus to the 2030 Paralympic Games in France, and we can’t wait to cheer her on again.

In addition to the proclamation, I also announced that we are looking for an opportunity to name a street in Collinda’s honour. It’s become a tradition to recognize Stittsville athletes who have significant success on the world stage with commemorations, including wrestler Erica Wiebe (2016), and figure skaters Jack Fan and Katie Xu (2018).

La version française suit

Spring has arrived, bringing another opportunity for Stittsville residents to get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and give back to our community. The Cleaning the Capital 2026 Spring Campaign runs from April 15 to May 31, with registration opening on Friday, March 27.

Year after year, Stittsville continues to show incredible community spirit. For the fourth consecutive year, our goal is to once again lead the city with the highest number of registered cleanup projects, building on the momentum created by our dedicated volunteers.

Last fall, Stittsville’s cleanup efforts were recognized internationally by UN Habitat, highlighting the impact of community‑led environmental action. This recognition belongs to every resident who has taken part, and we are excited to carry this energy into the 2026 spring campaign.

What’s new this year: This year’s campaign introduces new ways to celebrate participation, creativity, and community pride, while continuing to grow our collective impact across Stittsville. New initiatives include the Stittsville Clean Champions Awards, a Youth Art Showcase, and continued opportunities for students to earn volunteer hours through cleanup projects.

Stittsville Clean Champions Awards

We are excited to introduce the Stittsville Clean Champions Awards, which recognizes the dedication, creativity, and impact of volunteers throughout the campaign. The awards will celebrate a range of contributions, including the largest volunteer group, best group photo, most creative team name, youngest volunteer team, oldest volunteer team or individual, best school participation, and the greatest transformation demonstrated through before and after photos.

Stittsville Youth Art Showcase: Our Clean Community

The Stittsville Youth Art Showcase invites kids and youth to share what a clean, healthy, and caring community means to them through art. Artwork inspired by parks, nature, community pride, teamwork, and environmental stewardship will be featured in a temporary outdoor exhibition along the Trans Canada Trail, with dates and location to be confirmed.

This project offers a simple and meaningful way for young residents to take part in Cleaning the Capital, share their voices, and build community pride in Stittsville.Open to all kids and youth in Stittsville. For more details, download the PDF.

More info

Students earn volunteer hours: Students looking to complete their community involvement hours are encouraged to organize or join a cleanup project with friends or family. Cleaning the Capital is a great way to give back, earn volunteer hours, and make a positive impact in your neighbourhood.

A great opportunity to get involved: Cleaning the Capital is a meaningful way to strengthen our sense of community, show pride in our neighbourhoods, and help keep parks, trails, and green spaces clean and welcoming. It is a fun and impactful activity for neighbours, families, schools, friends, and workplaces.

Help us cover each green space: Before registering your cleanup project, please review the interactive cleanup map to see which locations are already registered. Choosing an available spot helps ensure that at least one group is registered for every park and green space in Stittsville, allowing us to spread cleanup efforts across the community.

Share your impact: Participants are encouraged to take photos and share their cleanup stories throughout the campaign. Group photos, before‑and‑after images, and action shots help celebrate volunteer efforts and inspire others to get involved. Send photos and stories to Glen.Gower@ottawa.ca.

Please tag #CleaningTheCapital, #OttCity, and #StittsvilleCleanup when sharing.

Register your clean-up event

Registration opens on Friday, March 27. Choose a cleanup location and register your project at ottawa.ca/clean. Please check the interactive map before registering to avoid duplicate locations.

When registering your cleanup event, please be sure to select the option “Allow to share information with your ward.” This allows our office to better support your cleanup, track participation across Stittsville, share updates, and highlight volunteer efforts throughout the campaign.

Cleanup supplies: Registered participants will receive a free cleanup kit, including garbage bags and nitrile gloves. Cleanup kits will be available for pickup at participating City of Ottawa facilities between April 2 and May 15.
