Jane’s Walk is a pedestrian-focused event that improves urban literacy by offering insights into local history, planning, design, and civic engagement through the simple act of walking and observing. It is named for Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) who was an urbanist and activist whose writings championed a fresh, community-based approach to understanding, organizing, designing, and building cities.

I’m hosting another walk this year on Stittsville Main Street on Saturday, May 2. It starts at 4:00pm and lasts about 90 minutes. Spaces are limited and registration is recommended to help us plan: https://www.janeswalkottawa.ca/en/walks/janes-walk-ottawa-gatineau-2026/22117

This year’s theme is “Stories of Stittsville Main Street”. For more than 170 years, Stittsville has evolved from a small rural village into a vibrant suburban community. On this walk, we’ll explore how the function of Stittsville Main Street has changed over time through stories about its history, familiar landmarks, and distinctive architecture. We’ll also look ahead to the future and consider how the street may continue to evolve. As always, the walk will be a great opportunity to meet neighbours and experience Stittsville’s favourite street together.

Registration is also open for walks planned all over Ottawa from May 1-3, 2026. Check out the Jane’s Walk web site for info.

This sidewalk is a priority project in the City’s Transportation Master Plan and we want your feedback.

The design includes a sidewalk on the west side of Hobin, and will not affect the decorative gates in front of homes along the street.

On Thursday, April 23 we celebrated dozens of volunteers at the 2026 Stittsville Volunteer Awards. This year we had a record number of nominees in six categories – testament to the high level of involvement in our community.

The annual awards are a tradition dating back nearly 40 years. Launched in 1990 as the “Goulbourn Recognition Awards”, they were originally presented to residents in Stittsville, Richmond, Munster, Ashton, and the surrounding rural area. They continue to highlight the contributions of many outstanding Stittsville volunteers.

Thank you to Mayor Mark Sutcliffe for joining us, members of the Griffiths family, and friends, family and community members who joined us. Thank you as well to members of the Selection Committee for their valuable input and advice, and to my team for organizing the event.

A little help goes a long way. Thank you for getting involved in your community!

Nancy Oastler

Comité consultatif intérimaire des Bungalows of Edenwylde

It was an honour to proclaim April 4 as Collinda Joseph Day in the City of Ottawa on behalf of Mayor Mark Sutcliffe.

Collinda recently captured a gold medal with Canada’s wheelchair curling team at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Italy, an extraordinary achievement that has made our entire community proud. On Saturday, we welcomed Collinda and her family (pictured above) to a special meet-and-greet at CARDELREC–Goulbourn, where Stittsville residents had the chance to congratulate her personally, hear about her Paralympic journey, and even see her gold medal up close.

The Canadian team went undefeated throughout the tournament, a testament to their skill, teamwork, and determination. Even with this incredible milestone behind her, Collinda is already looking ahead with ambition and focus to the 2030 Paralympic Games in France, and we can’t wait to cheer her on again.

In addition to the proclamation, I also announced that we are looking for an opportunity to name a street in Collinda’s honour. It’s become a tradition to recognize Stittsville athletes who have significant success on the world stage with commemorations, including wrestler Erica Wiebe (2016), and figure skaters Jack Fan and Katie Xu (2018).

PHOTOS : Hommage à la médaillée d’or Collinda Joseph
