I will be introducing a notice of motion on Wednesday at City Council for a commemorative naming to honour the late Marion Gullock.
Marion lived in Stittsville for close to 68 years and played a vital role in the formation of many of our local groups and activities that have helped shape our community. She received the Roger Griffiths Memorial Citizen of the Year Award in 2000 and the City of Ottawa’s Community Activism Award in 2003 for her dedicated volunteerism in Stittsville.
Marion and her husband Bill were one of the first families to move to Ralphpark Street, formerly known as Ralph Street, and Marion lived in the same house for several decades becoming a pillar of the community and known for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand. She passed away earlier this year.
If approved, Ralph Street Park, located at 12 Ralphpark Street, would be renamed “Marion Gullock Park” in recognition of her outstanding service and enduring impact on the community.

WHEREAS on July 10, 2024, City Council approved the Commemorative Naming Policy; and
WHEREAS in keeping with its powers set out in the Municipal Act, 2001, Council may assign a commemorative name by resolution, notwithstanding the provisions included in the Commemorative Naming Policy; and
WHEREAS Marion Gullock lived in Stittsville for close to 68 years and played a vital role in the formation of many of the local groups and activities that have helped shape our community; and
WHEREAS Marion was a Secretary and Treasurer of the Stittsville-Goulbourn Horticultural Society when it was first formed in 1962, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Stittsville Friendship Club in 1982; and
WHEREAS Marion was a charter member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Stittsville Legion, a member of the Goulbourn Museum, the Goulbourn Township Historical Society, the Stittsville Village Association, and the Stittsville Minor Hockey Association; and
WHEREAS Marion was awarded the Roger Griffiths Memorial Citizen of the Year Award in 2000 and Senior Citizen of the Year Award in 2002 and 2012, as well as the City of Ottawa’s Community Activism Award in 2003 for her dedicated volunteerism in Stittsville; and
WHEREAS Marion and her husband Bill were one of the first families to move to Ralphpark Street, previously known as Ralph Street, and Marion lived in the same house for several decades, becoming a pillar of the community known for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that City Council approve the commemorative naming of Ralph Street Park, located at 12 Ralphpark Street, to “Marion Gullock Park” in honour of Marion Gullock and in recognition of her outstanding service and enduring impact on the community of Stittsville and the City of Ottawa; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an appropriate plaque be installed displaying the name and a brief history of the contributions of Marion Gullock; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all costs related to the production and installation of the plaque and subsequent event be funded through the Councillor’s office; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all costs related to updating the park sign be funded through Ward 6 – Stittsville Cash-in-Lieu; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all text for signage and commemorative plaques shall be bilingual and subject to approval by the General Manager of Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services.

Je présenterai un avis de motion mercredi au Conseil municipal pour une désignation commémorative en l’honneur de feu Marion Gullock.
Marion a vécu à Stittsville pendant près de 68 ans, et a joué un rôle essentiel dans la création de nombreux groupes et activités locaux qui ont contribué à façonner notre communauté. Elle a reçu le prix commémoratif Roger Griffiths du résident de l’année en 2000 et le prix d’activisme communautaire de la Ville d’Ottawa en 2003 pour son bénévolat dévoué à Stittsville.
Marion et son mari Bill ont été parmi les premières familles à s’installer dans la rue Ralphpark, anciennement connue sous le nom de rue Ralph, et Marion a vécu dans la même maison pendant plusieurs décennies, devenant un pilier de la communauté. Elle était reconnue pour sa gentillesse, sa générosité et sa volonté de donner un coup de main. Elle est décédée plus tôt cette année.
Si la motion est approuvée, le parc de la rue Ralph, situé au 12, rue Ralphpark, serait renommé « parc Marion-Gullock » en reconnaissance de son service exceptionnel et de l’empreinte durable qu’elle a laissée dans notre communauté.

ATTENDU QUE le 10 juillet 2024, le Conseil municipal a approuvé la Politique sur les noms commémoratifs;
ATTENDU QUE conformément aux pouvoirs qui lui sont conférés dans la Loi de 2001 sur les municipalités, le Conseil municipal peut attribuer un nom commémoratif par résolution, sans égard à la Politique;
ATTENDU QUE Marion Gullock a vécu à Stittsville pendant près de 68 ans et a joué un rôle essentiel dans la création de nombreux groupes et activités locaux qui ont contribué à façonner notre communauté;
ATTENDU QUE Marion a été secrétaire et trésorière de la Société horticole de Stittsville Goulbourn lors de sa création en 1962 et a joué un rôle déterminant dans la fondation du Coin amical de Stittsville en 1982;
ATTENDU QUE Marion était membre fondatrice des Dames auxiliaires de la Légion de Stittsville et membre du Musée Goulbourn et de la Société historique du canton de Goulbourn, de l’Association du village de Stittsville ainsi que de l’Association de hockey mineur de Stittsville;
ATTENDU QUE Marion a reçu le prix commémoratif Roger Griffiths du résident de l’année de Stittsville en 2000 et le prix de l’aîné de l’année en 2002 et 2012, ainsi que le prix d’activisme communautaire de la Ville d’Ottawa en 2003 pour son bénévolat dévoué à Stittsville;

IL EST EN OUTRE RÉSOLU QUE tous les coûts liés à la production et à l’installation de la plaque et à l’événement subséquent soient financés par le bureau du conseiller;
IL EST EN OUTRE RÉSOLU QUE tous les coûts liés au changement de la signalisation du parc soient couverts par le fonds du quartier 6 (Stittsville) destiné au règlement financier des frais;
IL EST EN OUTRE RÉSOLU QUE tout le texte du panneau et des plaques soit bilingue et soumis à l’approbation du directeur général des Loisirs, de la Culture et des Installations.
