Construction for traffic calming improvements on Sweetnam Drive will start at the end of October and last through November. The work includes the installation of a pedestrian crossover at the pathway just north of Harry Douglas Drive, with a speed hump placed on each side (55 meters to the north and 80 meters to the south of the new crossing). The project also involves edge-line and centre-line pavement markings along with associated pavement, pathway, and landscaping reinstatement as required.
Lane reductions and alternating traffic can be expected during construction to accommodate the work. Access to local businesses and private properties, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained during construction. If you require a disability-related accommodation, please contact the City’s Project Manager.
A neighbourhood traffic calming study for Sweetnam Drive was previously conducted by the City of Ottawa in 2024, in response to traffic concerns raised by residents. After a proposed concept plan was presented, the City opened an online survey to gather public feedback. A total of 128 people responded to the survey, and the results were summarized in an “As We Heard It” report. The final plan being constructed this year is the result of the feedback received as well as further technical analysis performed.
