The City of Ottawa will be conducting environmental drilling work at the vacant, city-owned properties at 32 and 34 Friendly Crescent on Friday, November 6 and Monday, November 9, 2026. There will not be any work conducted over the weekend or after 5:00 pm on weekdays.
The work is part of a Phase Two Environmental Assessment (ESA) at the site. The Phase Two ESA is a field investigation that uses a drill rig to collect soil samples and install monitoring wells at the properties. Shallow soil samples will also be collected using hand-augering equipment at selected locations.
This activity is being undertaken following a recommendation from the Phase One ESA, completed a few years ago, which identified potential environmental concerns related to the former use of the site as a sewage pumping station.
Access to the work areas around the drilling rig will be closed through traffic control measures (cones, barricades, caution tape), but access to the walking path through the property will be maintained. The excess soil cuttings and purge water will be left on site in sealed drums until the lab results confirm the appropriate disposal method. The drums will be labeled by the environmental consultant the City has retained for the work, BluMetric Environmental Inc.
Notices to the residents of the properties that are immediately adjacent to the work area will be distributed prior to the start of the work.
