The Carp Road Widening project includes two additional lanes from Hazeldean to the 417 (4 lanes total, 2 in each direction), along with sidewalks, and pathways, plus the installation of new sanitary and storm sewers plus watermain. It also includes intersection upgrades at several locations, including a major upgrade at Carp and Hazeldean.
Funding is secured, tendering was started, and Phase 1 work was supposed to start in September 2026. But the construction start is now being pushed to Spring 2027 due to delays in finalizing property acquisition and easement agreements at the intersection. Here’s the latest timeline information that we have.

Phase 1 – Carp Road and Hazeldean Road intersection modifications
Design: Completion in Summer 2026
Advance utility relocation work: Summer / Fall 2026
Construction start: Spring 2027 (contingent upon land acquisition)
Construction completion: Summer 2028
The first utility relocation work will be hydro poles on the east side of the Carp / Hazeldean intersection during the month of September. Additional utility relocation work will be communicated once schedules are confirmed.

Phase 2 – Carp Road widening, sidewalks, and multi-use pathways from Hazeldean Road to the Queensway
Design: Completed in 2028
Construction start: 2028
Construction completion: to be determined
The City will need to acquire property along both sides of Carp Road to allow for a wider right-of-way. Staff are finalizing the location of utilities (for example, hydro poles) before contacting property owners. City Realty Services should begin contacting affected property owners this fall.
