Over the past few years we’ve made some big strides forward to advance improvements on Stittsville Main Street. In 2020 we published a discussion paper called Revitalizing Stittsville Main Street . Hundreds of residents, businesses, and community groups provided comments through workshops, surveys, and email, summarized in this “What we heard” report.

That led to the development of the Stittsville Main Street Public Realm Plan, approved by City Council in 2022. Highlights from the plan include:

  • Wider sidewalks
  • Bike lanes (cycletracks) on both sides of the street
  • Raised and protected intersections
  • Street tree planting and greening
  • Crossing improvements at the Trans Canada Trail and Poole Creek
  • Street furnishings, gateway, and placemaking opportunities
  • Improved bus stops with space for shelters
  • Renewed street and pedestrian-level lighting

The Stittsville Main Street upgrades were included in the new Transportation Master Plan, approved by City Council in July 2025. That means the project will be prioritized for funding and construction in the next few years. Total cost of the project in 2022 was estimated at just under $23-million.

In the meantime, we’re continuing to work with residents, businesses, landowners, and community groups to revitalize the street through new development and beautification efforts such as the flower pot pilot program.
