I continue to hear a lot of concerns from residents about community safety. Issues like traffic enforcement, police response times, car thefts, racism and hate incidents, and overall visibility of police in our community are the most frequent topics. I’m in regular contact with Ottawa Police and I share your feedback with the local police team.
The Ottawa Police Service has released its annual ward-by-ward crime statistics report.
- You can access the reports here. Click on any ward on the map (Stittsville is “Ward 6”) to download the PDF.
These reports provide a detailed breakdown of all founded Criminal Code of Canada offences reported to the Ottawa Police Service during the 2025 calendar year. (OPS also publishes an interactive Crime Map showing information about each community, updated daily.)
In general in Stittsville, we’re seeing a decrease in the overall crime rate and the number of reported crimes, and the number of calls for services stayed relatively static. But while non-violent crime is decreasing, the rate of violent crime has risen. Among all 24 wards across the City of Ottawa, Stittsville had the fourth lowest crime rate in 2025. There’s still a lot of room for improvement, and there are initiatives underway, for example:
- The City of Ottawa’s 2026 budget included one of the largest one-time increases in funding for the Ottawa Police Service in the city’s history, which will enable the service to hire 25 new officers this year.
- The Ottawa Police are continuing to roll out a new “District Model” to improve their presence and engagement in communities like Stittsville.
- Police are putting more focus on issues like traffic enforcement in Stittsville and the west end, and they’re improving how they follow-up and communicate with residents who make reports.
As always, I encourage residents to contact me with any of your questions and concerns about community safety.
