In this program, the City will sell credits from the Zero‑Emission Bus Program (ZEB) and reinvest the revenue in future electric buses.

Under the regulations, one credit equals one tonne of emissions reduced. Phase 1 of the ZEB program aims to replace 350 diesel buses with electric buses by 2027, with each bus reducing about 77 tonnes of emissions per year. If the ZEB program is registered in the Clean Fuel Regulations market in July of this year, the credits could generate revenues estimated at $1.3 million in 2026, increasing to approximately $3.9 million by 2027, and reaching about $4.3 million annually at full deployment at 350 buses.

To participate, the City would need a qualified third-party service provider to meet administrative, reporting, and verification requirements under the regulations. The service provider would be responsible for federal compliance functions, while the City would retain oversight and decision-making authority related to participation and revenue use. These services are typically paid for through either a percentage of revenue or a fixed fee.

The City may also pursue additional programs in the Clean Fuel Regulations market and generate incremental revenues to further fund emission-reduction initiatives. Future revenue opportunities could include municipal fleet electrification, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and biogas production.

Mitigation measures, including a discretionary spending freeze and a pause in non-essential hiring, remain in place to manage the financial impact of these unforeseen pressures.

The Q2 Status Report will provide a clearer picture of the City’s financial position and will include a forecast to the end of the year.

Ticks have the potential to spread infections to residents of Ottawa, including Lyme Disease. Here are some tips from Ottawa Public Health on how you can protect yourself:

Apply a Health Canada approved insect repellent containing DEET or icaridin to exposed skin and clothing

Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, shoes, and socks to cover exposed skin

Tuck your pants into your socks

Wear light-coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily; this is also appropriate for mosquitoes as they are attracted to darker colours

Stay on the trails when hiking in the woods and other natural areas. Enjoy the mowed/maintained areas in parks and playing fields, while being mindful of tick habitat, such as tall grass and leaf litter.

Do a “full body” check on yourself, your children, and pets. Pay careful attention around your toes, back of the knees, groin, armpits and scalp.

I continue to hear a lot of concerns from residents about community safety. Issues like traffic enforcement, police response times, car thefts, racism and hate incidents, and overall visibility of police in our community are the most frequent topics. I’m in regular contact with Ottawa Police and I share your feedback with the local police team.

The Ottawa Police Service has released its annual ward-by-ward crime statistics report.

You can access the reports here. Click on any ward on the map (Stittsville is “Ward 6”) to download the PDF.

These reports provide a detailed breakdown of all founded Criminal Code of Canada offences reported to the Ottawa Police Service during the 2025 calendar year. (OPS also publishes an interactive Crime Map showing information about each community, updated daily.)

In general in Stittsville, we’re seeing a decrease in the overall crime rate and the number of reported crimes, and the number of calls for services stayed relatively static. But while non-violent crime is decreasing, the rate of violent crime has risen. Among all 24 wards across the City of Ottawa, Stittsville had the fourth lowest crime rate in 2025. (Source: CTV Ottawa.)

There’s still a lot of room for improvement, and there are initiatives underway, for example:

The City of Ottawa’s 2026 budget included one of the largest one-time increases in funding for the Ottawa Police Service in the city’s history, which will enable the service to hire 25 new officers this year.

The Ottawa Police are continuing to roll out a new “District Model” to improve their presence and engagement in communities like Stittsville.

Police are putting more focus on issues like traffic enforcement in Stittsville and the west end, and they’re improving how they follow-up and communicate with residents who make reports.

As always, I encourage residents to contact me with any of your questions and concerns about community safety.

La version française suit

A heads up that Stittsville Main Street will be closed between Orville Street and Abbott Street overnight from Sunday, June 7 until Tuesday, June 16 from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. overnight on Sundays and Mondays, and from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during the rest of the week. A noise by-law exemption has also been issued for this work. (The road will be open at all other times on weekdays and weekends.)

The work is required to complete water and sewer connections for the development at 1518 Stittsville Main Street. The City is allowing the overnight closure to avoid disruptions during the day on weekdays and weekends.

Access will be maintained for pedestrians and all local businesses can continue to operate. This will be a disruption so residents are encouraged to plan ahead and use an alternate route.
