The City’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) sets out how the city will plan, develop, operate its walking, cycling, transit and road networks over the next few decades. It’s meant to reflect the City’s new Official Plan (2022)< by accommodating population growth to 2046, and supporting a shift to sustainable transportation modes (walking, cycling, transit).

There are many much-needed projects for Stittsville included in the updated Transportation Master Plan that was approved in July 2025 and we often get questions from residents when these projects will be built. The timelines are quite broad, and we are pressing to have all of these projects completed as soon as possible.

I asked City staff to put together a map that shows all of the Stittsville projects in the TMP. You can click on the map or the legend to enlarge, and we’ve included descriptions of each project below.

April 18: Amateur Radio Day
Mayor Mark Sutcliffe has proclaimed April 18 as World Amateur Radio Day in Ottawa and Ottawa-area Amateur Radio enthusiasts are celebrating with community engagement events across the region. The proclamation coincides with the global celebration of World Amateur Radio Day, the date of the formation of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), 100 years ago in 1925. Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) will once again be organizing a ‘Get on the Air on World Amateur Radio Day’ special event, encouraging Amateur Radio operators to get on the air and contact as many RAC stations as possible. Allan McCarville, a local author and member of the Goulbourn Township Historical Society, will be giving a presentation on local history entitled: Stories of Goulbourn: Lies, Rumours, and Other Tales. Why Let the Truth Get in the Way of a Good Tale? From the depths of the prehistoric Champlain Sea to the bright lights of Hollywood, the history of Goulbourn Township is full of surprises. The presentation will span a millennia of local heritage, touching on tales of ghosts, murder, robbery, and strange disappearances. Parking and refreshments are free. All are welcome. This event will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, 67 Fowler Street, in Richmond. More information…

On Earth Day, the Friends of Stittsville Wetlands will host their second annual community forum—an inspiring gathering designed to deepen public understanding of the ecological significance of the Goulbourn Wetland Complex and the vital role residents play in protecting it for wildlife, the community, and future generations. Featuring expert speakers from the Canadian Wildlife Federation and the Friends of Carp Hills, the event will offer both in‑person and virtual participation, with a recorded session available afterward. By bringing together local residents, conservation leaders, and engaged community members, the forum aims to build momentum for a Stittsville‑based turtle conservation program and inspire collective action to help protect and restore these remarkable species and the wetlands they depend on. This year’s forum will run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 2 Mulkins Street.
The main spa building would be three storeys tall and would include spa services and a restaurant. Several smaller buildings are also planned to offer additional personal services. The site would include outdoor pools and treatment areas inside a fenced, landscaped space, with walking paths connecting the different areas. The spa would be located northeast of Solandt Road and Legget Drive and would be connected to the nearby Brookstreet Hotel.

The zoning change would rezone the property to allow the planned business type. It would also set a maximum building height of 44 metres and increase the amount of space allowed for personal services, restaurants and retail. Redeveloping this underused site supports the City’s Official Plan, which aims to create a mixed‑use, transit‑friendly innovation district in Kanata North.

This initiative is considered a High Economic Impact Project that will support the City’s economic development strategy and broader city-building priorities. It will generate new construction jobs and permanent employment opportunities, and represents a major private investment in Kanata North. By fostering projects like this, the City helps create the conditions businesses need to grow, encourages new companies to locate in Ottawa, and supports a strong local workforce.

Landmark buildings promise significant Centretown park space

The Committee approved changes to the Official Plan and Zoning by-law, along with a heritage permit, to allow two landmark buildings to be built on O’Connor Street between MacLaren and Gilmour streets. The project meets the City’s criteria for landmark buildings, which allows taller buildings than normally permitted under the Zoning By-law.

The proposal includes two towers, one with 27 storeys and the other with 25 storeys. Together, they would add 513 new homes in a walkable neighbourhood that is well served by transit. The base of the buildings would be four storeys tall and would include shops or other commercial uses at street level. About 40 per cent of the site, roughly 1,600 square metres, would be set aside as park space. That is roughly equivalent to a full city block of green space for residents to enjoy. The design also provides gradual height changes between the new buildings and nearby homes, and limits shadows on the park.

A heritage permit is required because the site is located within the Centretown Heritage Conservation District. The project would replace a surface parking lot and an existing building that does not add to the area’s heritage value. The base of the building will be clad in red brick to reflect the colours and materials used in nearby buildings and across the Centretown neighbourhood.

Tracking Ottawa’s housing approvals

To help address the housing crisis, City Council committed to providing home builders enough opportunities to build 151,000 quality market homes by 2031. The City tracks the progress of residential development in Ottawa and shares that data through an interactive housing approvals dashboard.

Tracking began in January 2023, and between that time and the end of Q2 2025, Council has provided approvals for more than 60,000 new homes. In Q3 and Q4 of 2025, it is estimated this committee provided approvals for another 8,650 new homes, bringing the overall total of dwellings approved since tracking began to more than 68,650. That has put applicants in a position to build roughly 45 per cent of the homes required to meet that 2031 goal. In addition, zoning permissions for significantly more units have been granted through Council’s approval of the new Zoning By-law.

If Council approves the land-use permissions that the Committee recommended today, applicants will be able to build another 513 new homes. Since the start of 2026, it is estimated this Committee has enabled the development of about 826 new homes.

City Council will consider the recommendations from today’s meeting on Wednesday, April 22.

Artwork must be submitted by Friday, May 15, and all artwork submitted will be displayed in a temporary outdoor exhibition along the Trans Canada Trail on Sunday, May 31.

This year, we are giving new life to reused coroplast A‑frame signs from the Councillor’s Office by transforming them into a public outdoor art display. These signs were previously used to promote community events in Stittsville and will now be upcycled to showcase artwork created by local kids and youth. The existing printed side of each sign will be covered and used as the artwork surface, supporting reuse and reinforcing the environmental values of Cleaning the Capital.

The showcase is open to all kids and youth in Stittsville, whether participating individually, with friends or family, or as part of a group or class. Artwork may include drawings, paintings, collages, or mixed‑media pieces and can reflect parks and green spaces, community pride and teamwork, recycling and reuse, or what a clean and caring community means to you.

This initiative offers a fun and meaningful way for kids and youth to be part of Cleaning the Capital, even if they are not joining a cleanup. Through art, participants can help inspire environmental awareness, celebrate community pride, and show how much young people care about Stittsville and its future. We would love to see participation from kids and youth across every corner of the community.

We’re hosting an open house on Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. at A. Lorne Cassidy Elementary School (27 Hobin St) so residents can view the proposed design for a sidewalk on Hobin Street from Carp Road to Crossing Bridge Park.

This sidewalk is a priority project in the City’s Transportation Master Plan and we want your feedback.

The design includes a sidewalk on the west side of Hobin, and will not affect the decorative gates in front of homes along the street. We’ll post more information to this space when it becomes available.

We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to fully participate. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please email glen.gower@ottawa.ca or call 613-580-2476.
